Host Easter Visit

Thursday 20th - Saturday 22nd March

Host visit by Tshilidzi Dlamini from Pretoria, South Africa. Atttending a course on the economics of climate change at Wolfson College, Cambridge, Tshilidzi works for the government back in Pretoria as Director of Climate Change Response where she has input into the formulation of policy to mitigate the effects of climate change.

It was timely that over the weekend there was a short programme on television about the proposed Severn Barrage scheme. Clearly this would have a significant environmental impact but climate change is already having a significant impact so ultimately it may come down to choosing the lesser of two evils.

The generation of electricity is a key issue in South Africa and it is a cruel irony that just as the infrastructure begins to reach more rural communities they are told that it is a limited resource!
